Overview

 

Noise, or unwanted sound, is one of today’s most widespread occupational health issues. Exposure to high levels of noise can cause employee hearing loss and may cause other harmful health effects as well.

OSHA and MSHA hearing conservation program requirements are designed to protect workers from sustaining hearing impairment, even with significant occupational noise exposure over their working lifetimes.  It is important that your company maintain the high level of standards set by OSHA/MSHA.

At Audiometric Associates, our goal is to help protect your employees from hearing damage by providing hearing conservation services in accordance with OSHA and MSHA standards.  All of our procedures from testing, to instrument calibration, to record keeping comply with regulatory requirements.

 

Noise Surveys

Detailed noise surveys are conducted with computerized instruments, noise logging dosimeters to confirm noise exposures for representative employee positions. Dosimeter data is compared to standards to evaluate hearing conservation program needs. Software is used to creates unique reports that present each sample in a highly readable and visual format.

 

Personal Noise Dosimetry

Our industrial hygienist technicians use noise dosimetry to measure personnel exposure to noise levels through the work day. Noise levels surrounding the individual are measured and recorded over an eight-hour period (or for the full work shift). The technician also observes and records general information about personnel work processes.

 

Area Noise Level Monitoring

Our industrial hygienist technicians measure and record noise levels in a general work area to determine the extent of noise exposure or to measure the effectiveness of engineering controls applied to a machine (such as dampeners, insulation, isolation, distance). The noise level meter is placed in a fixed location in the work area or near the source of the noise.
